Paul
De Beenhouwer, born in Brasschaat, makes some studies
on the Drawing Academy of Saint-Michael in Brasschaat
and the Township Academy from Antwerp, division
Merksem. Luc Calpaert and Ludo Lacroix are his
teachers. Later on, Paul works in team spirit with
the "Art-Society 't Blad", who is settled in the
Old Atelier Hendrik Luyten in Brasschaat.
With his academy-degree, he
first makes water colors, drawings and sketches of
villages, nudes and still lifes. After that, the
pallet with the nice smelling oil paint is gradually
winning the confidence of Paul De Beenhouwer. He
prefers working with oil paint so much that he, under
one single exception, exclusively dedicates himself
to paint on canvas and panel.
In this materia, Paul De
Beenhouwer can express himself the best. This is the
medium to reproduce his ideas and creativity. The
brushes get set, once in a very delicate way, at
other times with a big touch. He is not scared to
paint "wet in wet", to get the right color. His
finest luminous
landscapes give an
expression of peace and resignation. The forces of
water and wind are expressed in
seasights, sometimes with a heavy sky or
thunderclouds and sometimes without. In the
genres expand the
frivolity, the joy, brought with color and sentiment.
After his education on the
academy, Paul De Beenhouwer searches for a fit atelier
in Brasschaat. The Old Atelier Hendrik Luyten,
settled on the Leopoldslei, gets some new live and
the early atmosphere comes back. Precisely as in the
time of the "Institut des Beaux-Arts Henry Luyten",
and also as the studio of Frans Mertens, the smell
of oil-paint can be recognized and rich creations are
developed. The co-operation with an exceptional team
spirit, leads to the foundation of the "Art-Society
't Blad" in Brasschaat. Paul De Beenhouwer
gets chosen to be the chair-man.
Expositions, individual and
in group, take place in- and outside Belgium. A lot
of his works are purchased by private collectors in
Belgium and The Netherlands.
Paul, together with his
brother, the well known piano player Jozef De
Beenhouwer, are the driving powers and co-founders of
the society "Archief Henry Luyten vzw". This co-operation
sets up a retrospective with the works of Henry
Luyten, in the summer of 1995, because of the 50th
birthday of his death. Together with this exposition,
the book Henry Luyten, written by Jozef De Beenhouwer,
gets published.
Paul De Beenhouwer is also
co-founder of the society "Jan Frans Simons vzw". The
purpose of this society, founded in 1995, is to make
a complete inventory of paintings from the artists
Jan Frans Simons and his daughter Tilla Simons.
At this very moment, the society also takes the other
artists of Brasschaat into her heart. The society
already put up the "Retrospective Edward Van Mieghem",
the "Double exposition of Jan Frans and Tilla Simons",
"The Etching World of Gilbert Van Hool" and the exibit
of "Theodoor Verstraete" in the past.
